Three members from Nancy Run attended a Radiological/Nuclear Hazardous Materials Technician training course. The training involved 32 hours of both classroom and hands-on applications and ran from Monday, October 26th through Thursday, October 29th. Safety Officer William Andress, Chief Dave Bachemin and Fire Fighter Jenny Beers began the trip to Las Vegas on Sunday arriving at 11am. The class began very early Monday morning with registration at 6:30am followed by a full day of lecture held at the Tuscany Hotel in Las Vegas. Tuesday, the class boarded a bus and traveled to the Nevada Test Site located about 70 miles north of Las Vegas. During the next three days the training consisted of classroom activities as well as hands-on applications in radiological/nuclear detection, decontamination procedures and other aspects in relation to WMD incidents involving radiological/nuclear components. This valuable training experience was provided through Homeland Security and managed by the Counter Terrorism Operations Support (CTOS) along with the Department of Energy and the University of Nevada. There was also a Radiological/Nuclear Awareness Train-the-Trainer course the members from Nancy Run attended and became certified to teach.
