On Monday night October 26, 2009 Nancy Run Fire Company, Bethlehem Township Volunteer Fire Company and Nissan teamed up for some quality training. Chief Stapinski from Bethlehem Township acquired a 2006 Nissan Quest mini-van with a team of Investigators from Nissan. The purpose of the drill was to give fire fighters a better understanding of safety features on the Nissan and for the Investigators to see if they could short out a wire that runs from the rear of the vehicle to the front of the vehicle. The crews also proved that when you slam the vehicle doors you can set off the side impact air bags prior to igniting the vehicle. The short worked after some minor modifications and lit the van off quite well. Crews stood by and watched every detail of the burn including areas where air shocks were located and where magnesium was present. Engine 1413 was used along with fire fighters from both stations to extinguish the fire. Both stations look forward to working with Nissan and their Investigations Unit in the near future.
