On the weekend of February 12th and 13th, three Nancy Run firefighters completed another phase of the PA Fish and Boat Commission water rescue series. Lieutenant Daniel Rivera, Firefighter/EMT Kyle Horton and Firefighter Jamie Kreidler obtained certification for Phase 3 Ice Rescue. Along with firefighters from both Northampton and Lehigh counties, they beared the frigid temperatures of Grist Mill Lake in Hellertown. Firefighters trained for the rescue of civilians that have fallen through the ice, survival in icy conditions and self-rescue. With the completion of this phase, only one phase remains and that is Phase 4 Advanced Line Systems. Currently, because of the dangers involved with Phase 4, it is taught only in Harrisburg and directly through the PA Fish and Boat Commission officers. Firefighters are hoping that sometime in the spring they will be able to make the trip to our state's capital and complete the water rescue series.
