By Lieutenant Daniel Rivera
November 19, 2011

In the early morning hours of Saturday, November 19th, Bethlehem Township fire and EMS companies were dispatched to the area of Freemansburg Avenue and Washington Street for a motor vehicle accident with injuries. County communications advised of a single vehicle into a wall with injuries. 1751 (Chief Stapinski) arrived on scene and established Command. 1751 reported one male unconscious. Squad 1412 went in service with a crew of four. Upon EMS contact with the driver, it was noticed that the driver's legs were caught underneath a caved in dashboard. Engine 1712 arrived and began working on removing the driver side doors of the car and 1412's crew worked on the passenger side doors. After the doors were removed, crews prepared to do a dash push. After relief cuts were made on both sides, 1412's crew used Holmatro spreaders to lift the dashboard about 8 inches. Crews were then able to remove the patient. After about one hour on scene the companies were available and Command was terminated.
